Wellness and Academic Performance
Wellness is seldom a primary concern of schools or workplaces, a fact that often leads to poor outcomes for both students and employees. This discussion will propose a definition of wellness in an academic or professional environment and suggest methods to promote wellness.
Whether or not institutions adopt these types of practices, it is important for individuals to realize the importance of physical and mental wellness. No matter how hard to you work, if your body and mind become run down you cannot perform at your highest potential. Finding time to care for your own wellness is often a challenge. Time management is one of the most common issues that any student faces, but realizing the need for recovery time and activities that aid that recovery is the first step.
Often, finding a learning tool like an essay writing service to help with assembling a major paper or a study group to help share the load of preparing for the next big test is the difference between successful wellness management and letting yourself get run down.
What wellness means
Though the term “wellness” is not very specific on its own, it has a fairly specific meaning in this context. When talking about a workplace or an academic environment, wellness refers to your physical and mental ability to perform to the best of your ability. If you are short on sleep, bored by repetition, depressed from your outcomes or other life events, or just stuck in a rut, your performance will suffer.
There are plenty of ways out of these situations like joining a recreational sports team so you have something to look forward to, paying for essay writing services or other assistance to free up your schedule, or finding a hobby that takes advantage of your natural talents, but you must first recognize the problem before you can correct it.
Measurable elements of wellness
Some commonly accepted indicators of wellness include:
- Eating habits. Healthy eating behaviors do not include extreme denial or binging, they properly fuel a body for thinking and acting on a regular schedule.
- Exercise habits. Some kind of physical exertion helps the body and mind rest properly at the end of the day. Restlessness is often a direct result of inactivity.
- Work/life balance. A person has to be able to disconnect from their obligations. Whether through taking a vacation or by simply buying an essay or sharing a workload with team members, it is healthy to escape.
- Sleep habits. Get a proper night’s sleep as often as possible. The brain and body cannot operate when they have not rested properly and caffeine is no alternative to sleep. Even if it means consulting a tutor, asking for an extension, or turning to an essay writing service, finding the time to sleep is critical to health.
- Family history. There is not much you can do to change your family history, but awareness can prepare you. Some people may need to seek certain treatments or manage certain conditions and doing so earlier is always better than later.
Though it is less easily quantified than the above metrics, satisfaction with one’s own performance is also an important indicator of wellness. It is important for a person to feel good about the work they are doing, whether at work or at school. Without this gratification, a person can’t be expected to keep putting their best effort forward. This is an area where learning tools like essay writing services can go a long way by helping students or professionals rapidly improve their writing outcomes and feel better about their performance.
Benefits of wellness
Attendance is the most obvious advantage of keeping students and workers healthy. Physically healthy people are capable of showing up every day and have the energy to give their best performance. Mentally healthy people are less likely to skip out on work or school and are more attentive when they are present.
In addition to simply showing up, wellness helps people to perform at their peak. In general, wellness translates to having an abundance of physical and mental energy. This means a person might be eager and able to take on a presentation with an urgent deadline or complete an advanced research project on a short deadline.
Someone who is short on patience or sleep or even interest might need help managing something that would normally be easy. These are many such situations where learning tools like tutors, essay writing services, or educational games might provide the relief that a student or employee needs to reclaim control of their schedule.
Contentment and wellness
Though it is less tangible than some other benefits, improved contentment is also a direct result of wellness. It can be difficult to define or quantify contentment, but there is little dispute that happier employees and students perform better. It stands to reason that someone is going to be more content when they are:
- Challenged. There are new and interesting problems to solve on a regular basis.
- Fulfilled. Efforts create value in the eyes of the person exerting him or herself.
- Appreciated. Accomplishments are acknowledged and rewarded.
- Rested. There are opportunities to recover and relax. Every minute of every day is not exhausting.
Contentment not only improves immediate performance in that it keeps employees and students at a high state of motivation, but it also improves longevity. When people feel the key elements of contentment on a regular basis, they do not feel the drive to escape their circumstances that drives people to drop out of school or quit jobs.
Encouraging wellness
There are a few key things that businesses and schools can do to encourage wellness in their workers and students, respectively. Though it is not a popular concern in the United States, awareness of this issue is increasing and the only way to continue that trend is for workers and students to take some individual accountability. There are resources available, students have the option to seek out tutors and buy essays; professionals can turn to their coworkers or mentors, but everyone must take the step for themselves.
Apart from relying on essay writing services or professional support groups, there are steps that institutions can and should take to improve wellness:
- 1. Education
- 2. Opportunity
- 3. Incentive
Education
There is a certain imperative for schools and employers to let their students and workers know that wellness is important. The mere act of communicating this implies that a university or workplace is open to and accepting of individual needs to achieve wellness. Of course the act of learning and producing must go on, that is why these places exist, but a person may feel less pressured to avoid help or work through a lunch if they know that their health is a priority.
It is in the interest of institutions to make sure the people working or learning within them know the best way to succeed. Everyone wins when students and employees perform at their peak ability. If this means purchasing essay assistance or consulting with a company therapist, there is no reason a person should feel ashamed of engaging that option. The first step is always knowing that the help exists, though.
Opportunity
Knowing the road to wellness is no use if you aren’t able to walk it. It is too often the case that workplaces and learning institutions make it technically known that wellness options exist, but make it impractical or even impossible to pursue them.
If a student is ashamed to seek learning help, whether from a writing group or an essay writing service, or if an employee is ashamed to take their time off or indulge in company perks, those “benefits” don’t count for anything at all. It is the obligation of the organization in power to make it clear to the individuals that they are welcome to enjoy the wellness tools that are available.
A further element of wellness can also be propagated from this step: trust. The employee or student may be automatically inclined to distrust those in power above them, but reassurance that their wellbeing is a priority can go a long way toward helping a student or employee trust their educator or employer. Trust creates a space in which loyalty can develop which translates to a tangible benefit for either schools or workplaces.
Incentive
It often isn’t enough to simply make an opportunity known. The American culture of working hard and then working harder is ingrained in many students and employees and certainly in most teachers and employers. The simple fact of succeeding is too often all that matters. Fortunately for these situations, there are support systems like online services that allow students to buy essays or professional groups that offer advice and networking.
For employers and educators that wish to rise above the unrelenting, cutthroat approach that drives too many workers and students to anxiety, however, there are options.
- Extracurricular activities have long been a proven method of improving performance. Both workplaces and schools have seen sports teams encourage physical health, team spirit, and a healthy competitive energy. Physical exertion can be a rarity in adult life and this opportunity is profoundly beneficial, even if it means turning to professional essay writing assistance to free up time for such events.
- Creative showcases offer an alternative to physical exertion that better suits some people, particularly when arranged so as to limit direct social pressure for the sake of introverted types. Galleries, performances, and contests provide an opportunity for public showcasing of talents beyond the physical that may be underappreciated in a person’s private life. While some might prefer to buy essays for assignments and projects, others would happily engage these kinds of writing challenges and enjoy having their skills on display.
- Social events can be stressful for some, but provide a vital outlet for others. The best executed of these do not impose pressure on more introverted types, but allow extroverts to recharge their social batteries and feel a sense of connection that they may be denied in more professional settings.
These various cases represent a broad scope of personality types, a reality of both schools and workplaces. There is no one solution that improves the mood and wellbeing of everyone, but a holistic approach can touch on all types and have the extra advantage of encouraging people to try new things. It is always possible that the introverted painter in high school might become a stage actor in college or a star pitcher on the company softball team. Someone who preferred to pay for essays in college might happily embrace writing tasks later in life. These discoveries are part of life and creating the opportunities and incentive to discover them are virtually an obligation of a responsible workplace or higher learning institution.
Taking ownership of wellness
We have discussed a number of things that institutions can do to improve the wellness of their learners or workers. There can be no doubt that students and workers who are healthy in both body and mind are more productive. There is, however, a reasonable doubt that institutions are motivated to properly inform, provide for, and encourage this.
This leaves the obligation to each individual. Though this shouldn’t be a surprise in modern society, it is important to both hear and to fully realize. To this end, there are a few things everyone can do to ensure their own wellness:
- Make time for sleep. The importance of a proper night’s sleep cannot be overrated. Though it may be tempting to stay up for one more episode or even to finish one more assignment, there is no alternative to giving the mind and body their required recovery time. Sometimes it is better to turn to professional essay writers to complete a task so you can protect your personal health.
- Exercise, somehow. Even for people who aren’t athletic, physical exertion is healthy. Go for a walk, park farther from the door, play a game that requires movement. The body and mind both rest better when they have been exhausted and sleep is often more difficult if both have not been challenged.
- Relax your mind. Recreation matters because it allows the mind relief from stress. Do something that is not important; you’ll be amazed at the recuperative effects of thinking about frivolous things. With this more than any other, it is important to consciously make peace with the “wasted” time. The natural instinct is to feel like you should be doing something of substance, but think of it as a restful activity and do not pressure yourself.
- Do something you care about. Too many days are filled to the brim with stress, but not the kind of stress that matters to you personally. Keep some part of your day dedicated to something that is important to you. It may be better in the long term for you to pay for an essay that doesn’t matter rather than further strain yourself completing it. We can’t spend every minute of every day on our own concerns, that isn’t how the real world works, but you can always take ownership of your time enough to do some small thing of importance to you to make sure your days have the kind of meaning that you care about.
Ultimately, all these concerns come down to time, something there is never quite enough of. Time management is the difference between a person in control of their life versus someone who is overwhelmed by it.
It is important to remember that your life is your own. You decide what is important to you and you decide how you meet each day. You can’t always control what happens around or to you, but you can control your reactions. If you are challenged with an unexpected presentation at work, you can either panic or embrace the opportunity to impress. If you are burdened with more assignments that any one person can manage, you can let them all fall flat or you can buy a professional essay to tackle the less important while you focus on what matters. Your choices are your own.
